    What is the reason of Rhinoplasty?

    Rhinoplasty operation is being done to reshape the nose to get a younger and more esthetic appearance which goes with the face. The nose can be resized and its angle with the upper lip can be changed, the nasal tips can be repaired and its appearance can be changed to a smoother vision. If you are not happy about how your nose looks like, the rhinoplasty operation can be good for you.

These technics are determined according to the patient. The aim is to get a symmetrical nose which is in right portion with the rest of the face, not artificial but a spectacular appereance. This operation is basically being done in two types: open and closed; additionally if the situation of the patients permits, it can be treated without any operation.     Nonsurgical (Filling) Rhinoplasty

    Filling method doesn’t require any surgical cuts. It can be applied to the patients who have bumps in their nose or who don’t have serious humps and curves. A filler which includes hyaluronic acid is injected to the required part of the nose. This option can be applied to the patients who don’t require surgical treatment.     Revision Rhinoplasty

    These are second or third operations which are applied to the people who already had a rhinoplasty surgery but are not happy with its results. They are fairly more difficult than the first operations. Considering the changements that were done, the difficult of the operations increases enduringly. The surgeon who does this operations should be very experienced. Mostly the outcomes of the first operation are visible in 2 years of time, these revision operations are not recommended to be done in this period of time.

    The Risks and Complications of Rhinoplasty

    After the surgery, it is quite normal to have temporary swellings, edema and bruises around the eye and nose. Other results can be as below:

    • Bleeding
    • Minimal damage in septum (the wall that separates the nose holes)
    • The tissue of the skin can be damaged, skin problems such as irritation.
    • Infection (in order to reduce the risk, after the operation the doctors prescribe antibiotics)
    • Stuffy nose due to the edema inside the nose
    • Anesthesia complications
    • The cosmetic results of the operation may not meet the expectations.

    Rhinoplasty Operation

    During this operation, your surgeon reaches to the cartilage and bone of the nose with an external small cut which is not visible to eye. According to the required result and the anatomy of the patient, some bones and cartilages can be removed or some other tissues from other parts of the body, or a synthetic tissue can be applied. After the surgeon remodels the bone and cartilage, the surgery finishes with the repair of other tissues. 
    This operation is being done with general anesthesia in a hospital. However, the nonsurgical nose operation can be done in a clinic. For the ones who get the general anesthesia is suggested to stay the night at the hospital.

    After The Rhinoplasty Operation

    After the surgery, a slightly edema and bruises are normal. Cold compress can reduce the swelling, bruises and aches. The recovery period after the surgery may change from a few days to 2 weeks according to the surgeons experience and the tissue, skin features of the patient.

    We can sum up the most important things to be taken care of after the surgery as below:

    • It is recommended to use a high pillow after the first 2 days of the surgery.
    • A few weeks may pass until you get back to heavy sports.
    • Unless otherwise advised by your doctor, you shouldn’t do heavy, exhausting exercise
    • You shouldn’t use glasses or sunglasses for at least 4 weeks after the surgery.
    • You shouldn’t neglect your regular doctor visits. (Generally after 1 week, the bandages and stitches are removed)
    • Until the bandages are out, instead of taking a complete shower; you should avoid wetting that area.
    • You should change the bandages as per your doctors instructions
    • You can get back to work 1 week after surgery.

    In general, the patients get back to work in two weeks after the surgery, however they should continue to keep their activities under control. Pay attention to below things after the surgery:
